A downloadable game

Thirty Minute Toy Commercial is here!

In this game, you take on the role of the Creative Director of the Playbros Toy Company in 198X. Your job, to develop the next amazing cartoon/toy commercial for kids. You'll be inundated with advice and directives. Can you stick to your creative vision and make a product that will ship in the millions?

This is a playable version of the game but will be revised and expanded on in the future. Free to download, so post your comments and let us know what you think.

Cheers,

Lolo

P.S. At the end of every game you'll have a fully developed cartoon concept straight out of the 1980s. Feel free to expand and adapt it as you will. Come back and let us know what you came up with.

This is very cool -- it is essentially a guided way through generating your very own 1980s cartoon series. There are a few initial decisions to make, and then you get to roll on the various tables to generate your 'pitch'.
If you don't want to accept the outcomes of the tables (which is the 'market research' presented to you, the Creative Director for this toy line), you can do so -- but you have to accept 'suggestions' from the various departments that are involved in order to pay down that 'creative debt'.

The rules presented are for a single-player game, and there are rules for two-player games in preparation. But I am wondering if you could play this game cooperatively, with a group, in order to generate a setting. A setting in which then to play in, with each session being an episode of the cartoon!

Hey,  Capy!

Thanks for the kind comments. You absolutely could use this to generate a Saturday morning cartoon setting. I say go for it! If I add any of those kind of direct role-playing components, it will be far down the line, but you could probably build out your characters in any universal system.

Have Fun!

This is awesome! I'm excited to see the rest of it!

Thanks, I hope to have a completed version by next week. Then, if there is interest, I have a couple ideas for expansion including a two-player version, an appendix listing how every major 80s cartoon could emerge from the system, and some illustrations, etc.

I would be really interested in that, especially the 2 player version!

Awesome! I'm almost done with the full version. Of course, while I was working on it, I had an idea for a pretty big revision that would vary the play sequence somewhat. My current plan is to post the complete version, hopefully tonight. Then take a short break and work on another project. Then come back and do the revision, at which point I will also complete the 2-player version (at your request!). Finally, I'll add some illustrations and hopefully the appendix.

Just letting you know that the next (full) version is up.
